Engineering at BIMCollab

At BIMcollab, you’ll build software that helps architects, engineers and construction professionals collaborate more effectively, validate building information and identify errors early, preventing costly mistakes throughout the building lifecycle.

What you’ll work on

At BIMcollab, you'll work on a range of engineering challenges, from desktop applications and 3D visualisation to data processing, information management and cloud infrastructure. Depending on your team, you'll focus on different parts of our software platform.

Desktop applications

Build and evolve desktop applications that allow professionals to work locally with complex BIM models, even without an internet connection. You'll focus on delivering a responsive, native user experience while keeping offline workflows connected to the cloud. Technical challenges include maintaining performance with large datasets, sharing functionality and UI across different host applications, and continuously improving established software.

Model processing

Turn complex 3D models from different CAD sources into structured, usable data. You'll work on extracting and analysing model information, building efficient ways to store and query massive datasets, and compressing 3D geometry and metadata to reduce latency. It's about making increasingly complex model data accessible and efficient to work with.

Web viewer

Bring complex 3D models to life directly in the browser. You'll work on rendering detailed geometry, enabling smooth navigation and interaction, and bringing desktop application capabilities to the web. The challenge is to deliver a rich, interactive 3D experience within the technical limitations of a browser.

Document & information management

Build software that helps professionals organise, manage and access all the information connected to a building project. This includes structured data, such as issues and their relationships, as well as files like 3D models and PDFs. You'll work on making this information easy to find and manage, while implementing fine-grained access rights that ensure users can only access what they're authorised to see.

Cloud & collaboration

Build and run cloud services that connect BIMcollab applications, data and users across different regions. As more applications move towards Azure, you'll work on cloud migration strategies, scalable infrastructure and reliable production environments. Technical challenges include balancing performance and cost, standardising infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code, monitoring cloud services and meeting regional availability and data sovereignty requirements.

Good to know, our recruitment is remote-friendly and for the time being all stages in the interview process will be held remotely.

The technology behind BIMcollab

Different teams work with different technologies. You don't need to have worked with every part of our stack before joining us. Engineering experience and the ability and motivation to learn matter more than ticking every technology box.

Why engineers choose BIMcollab

Solve problems that aren't straightforward

Building BIM software means working with complex 3D models, massive datasets, cloud infrastructure and systems that need to work together. Think of projects like airports or hospitals, where information needs to remain accessible, secure and reliable for decades.

These challenges go beyond writing code. You'll work on performance, scalability, software architecture and data security, finding solutions to problems that rarely have a straightforward answer.

Build a product, not a project

You don't build something, hand it over and move on to the next client. You keep developing the same product and domain over time, building a deeper understanding of the technology and the people using it.

That also means you get to see whether technical choices made years ago actually worked (or didn’t work) and use what you learn to keep improving the product.

Have influence on how things are built

Not every technical problem arrives fully defined. Engineers help figure out what needs to be done, discuss possible solutions and, with relatively few management layers, can get the right people together quickly to make decisions.

That gives you real influence on how things are built. It also means autonomy comes with responsibility: you're expected to take initiative, involve others and help determine the best way forward.

See what you're building

The software you build doesn't stay abstract. You work with digital models of real buildings, down to individual walls, doors, pipes and even power sockets.

That makes your work visual and tangible. You can actually see what your software helps architects, engineers and construction professionals work on in real building projects around the globe.

How our engineering teams work

Own a part of the product together

BIMcollab has seven development teams. Each team has its own area of responsibility within the product. At the same time, some technical challenges cut across those boundaries. Team leads work together on these challenges.

Engineering and Product work together within the teams

Product Owners bring in context from the business, customers and potential customers. Together with Engineering, teams determine what needs to be built and how to approach it technically.

Code reviews are conversations

Code reviews aren't only about approving code. Where possible, engineers talk through changes together. That makes it easier to understand why certain choices were made and turns a pull request into a learning opportunity for both engineers.

Keep growing without becoming a manager

Growing as an engineer doesn't mean you have to move into management. At BIMcollab, you can continue developing your technical expertise, take on more complex challenges and increase your impact as you gain experience.

One team, many backgrounds

You don't need a background in construction or BIM to join Engineering at BIMcollab. Engineers join from different parts of the software industry, bringing experience from areas such as embedded software, large-scale platforms and other technology environments. BIM and construction knowledge can be learned along the way.

What matters more is your foundation as a software engineer: being curious about complex technology, interested in understanding the people using the product and comfortable solving problems together.
