Elske de Kok - Director of People & Culture

When Elske joined BIMcollab- KUBUS, there was no dedicated HR department. Today, as Director of People & Culture, she helps shape an organisation where trust, ownership, and personal growth are part of everyday work.

Building people and the organisation

Elske joined BIMcollab- KUBUS as its first dedicated HR professional and has grown alongside an organisation that has changed significantly over the past few years. Today, as Director of People & Culture, she helps shape a culture where trust, personal growth, and people come first.

Building something that truly works

I get energy from building. Not from constantly firefighting or starting over, but from creating something that works and genuinely helps people. That's exactly why BIMcollab- KUBUS has felt like the right fit for me from day one.

Before joining BIMcollab- KUBUS, I'd already experienced several sides of HR. Over time, I realised that I'm most energised by organisations that are evolving—places where you can truly help build something. Not just HR processes, but the development of people and the organisation as a whole.

Here, I could really build something

When I joined BIMcollab- KUBUS, there wasn't a dedicated HR role yet. The foundations were there, but the organisation needed someone to take ownership and develop that area further. That immediately appealed to me.

There wasn't a predefined job description waiting for me. Instead, I had the freedom to ask: What does this organisation need? What fits our culture? How can we organise things in a smarter way? That opportunity to build was what attracted me then—and it's still what motivates me today.

My role grew alongside BIMcollab- KUBUS

When I started, we had around 65 colleagues. Since then, the organisation has doubled in size, and my role has evolved with it. Today, I contribute much more strategically to the direction of the organisation. That didn't happen overnight; it developed naturally.

As BIMcollab- KUBUS grew, so did the management structure. New roles were introduced, more stakeholders became involved, and the scope of the business expanded. As a result, my work gradually shifted from mainly operational HR to thinking much more about strategy, organisational development, and long-term direction.

That's one of the things I enjoy most about working here. There's always something new to improve. You're encouraged to question existing processes and help shape how the organisation continues to evolve.

Trust instead of control

What stands out to me most is how people-focused BIMcollab- KUBUS is. Of all the organisations I've worked for, this is by far the most human-centred. People aren't viewed as "resources" here—they're simply treated as people. You can see that in both the small and the big things: flexible working from home, working hours, dress code, and the way colleagues interact with one another. The starting point isn't control—it's trust.

I experienced that very clearly during the COVID pandemic. Parents were explicitly told they didn't have to make up every missed working hour in the evening if they had spent the day caring for their children or helping with home schooling. That may sound like a small gesture, but to me it says a lot about an organisation. Reality comes before rules.

A culture where everyone is approachable

Another thing I value is how accessible the organisation feels. We all have lunch together. Management doesn't sit separately. Everyone can approach one another, share ideas, and have conversations. That openness is deeply embedded in the culture.

The same goes for career growth. You don't have to fit into one specific box or follow a perfectly mapped-out career path. If you take initiative and ownership, you'll be given the opportunity to grow alongside the organisation. I've experienced that myself, and I've seen many colleagues do the same.

Well-organised in every sense

Besides the positive culture, things are simply well organised. Performance management is centred around development. Colleagues actively ask for feedback, complete a self-evaluation, and use that as the starting point for meaningful conversations. Those discussions aren't just about performance—they're also about how someone feels in their role, what support they need, and what kind of development suits them.

The same level of care is reflected in our employment conditions. Whether it's salary reviews, professional development, or career progression, everything is approached thoughtfully. I also really appreciate that the profit-sharing scheme applies equally to everyone. It's a clear signal that everyone's contribution matters and that success is shared across the organisation.

Initiatives like Green Benefits show that BIMcollab- KUBUS is about more than just financial results. They demonstrate a genuine commitment to employee wellbeing and the world around us. That fits perfectly with being a B Corp-certified company: focusing not only on growth, but also on the positive impact you make as a business.

Who will feel at home here?

I think BIMcollab- KUBUS is an excellent fit for people who thrive in an environment that's constantly evolving. People who aren't looking for a place where everything has already been decided, but who want the freedom to make an impact and help build the future.

If you see change as an opportunity, you'll feel at home here. And if you like taking ownership of your own development, even more so. You need to enjoy taking initiative, accepting responsibility, and continuing to grow. Because here, you'll genuinely be given the space to do exactly that.
