Frequently asked questions

Considering joining BIMcollab? You probably have a few questions. Here you'll find answers to the questions candidates ask us most often.

About us

1. Are you a start-up?

No, although you might get that impression from working at an international SaaS company. Our story actually goes all the way back to 1992. Today, we're an international software company with around 120 colleagues, while still being small enough to keep communication informal and lines relatively short.

2. What is the difference between KUBUS and BIMcollab?

KUBUS and BIMcollab are two brands within the same organisation. KUBUS has its roots in the Benelux and focuses on BIM software, consultancy, implementation and training. BIMcollab grew from that experience and is now our international SaaS platform, used by professionals in the construction industry around the world. So while you may apply for a role at BIMcollab, you'll officially be employed by KUBUS B.V.

3. How international is BIMcollab?

Very international. Our headquarters are in Eindhoven, but our team includes around 25 nationalities and BIMcollab serves customers around the world. That international mix is part of everyday work: you collaborate with people from different backgrounds, bringing different perspectives and experiences to the table.

4. What does being a B Corp mean at BIMcollab?

BIMcollab-KUBUS is a certified B Corp. For us, that means trying to translate responsible business into everyday choices. We support environmental and social initiatives, serve a vegetarian lunch at the office, offer green employee benefits and work with organisations such as Trees for All, Justdiggit and HomePlan. We also commit part of our profits to social and environmental causes.

5. What does it mean that BIMcollab is bootstrapped?

BIMcollab is a privately owned and bootstrapped company. We have grown the business without external investors or venture capital, which means we can take a long-term view on the choices we make.

Of course, we care about growth and financial performance, but we’re not working towards the next funding round. We invest our own resources and make our own choices about where to focus them. That brings freedom, but also responsibility: we need to be thoughtful about where we invest our time and money and make choices that contribute to sustainable, long-term success.

Working here

6. What does hybrid working look like?

Hybrid working is quite standard at BIMcollab. We believe in giving people flexibility and trust. When working from home, you receive a home-working allowance for each day worked remotely. For most roles, you can expect to work from our Eindhoven office around 2 to 3 days a week. We value this time together for collaboration, knowledge sharing and staying connected with your team. The exact balance between home and office depends on your role and team and will be discussed during the application process.

7. What’s for lunch?

Lunch is on us when you're working from our Eindhoven office. We serve a fully catered vegetarian lunch and sit down together around lunchtime. It may sound like a small thing, but it's actually quite an important part of our office life, and an easy way to meet colleagues outside your own team.

8. How would you describe the company culture?

Our culture is built around four values: Collaborative, Impact-driven, Proactive and People-centric. In practice, that means working together across teams, focusing on work that genuinely adds value, taking initiative and keeping people at the centre of what we do.

We're a relatively informal organisation with few management layers. You don't need a certain job title to have an opinion here. We expect people to speak up, challenge ideas constructively and take responsibility for making things better.

9. How much freedom and responsibility will I get?

Quite a lot of both. We believe in trust rather than micromanagement. You'll have room to make decisions, bring in ideas and take ownership of your work. But freedom also comes with responsibility. We expect you to take initiative, communicate openly, ask for help when needed and be able to explain the choices you make. If you prefer having every next step defined for you, our way of working may not be the best fit for you.

10. What benefits do you offer?

Alongside your salary, we offer a range of benefits, including 27 days of annual leave, a pension plan, profit sharing, travel and home-working allowances and a personal development budget. We also offer green benefits that allow you to earn additional leave when making certain sustainable investments at home. And when you're working from our Eindhoven office, lunch is on us.

11. Will I actually get to know people outside my own team?

Yes. Our shared office lunch is one way this happens naturally, but there are also drinks, BBQs, parties and other activities throughout the year. With around 120 colleagues, we're big enough to meet new people and small enough to still know who you're working with.

12. Is there free coffee? Asking the important questions.

Of course. Coffee, tea, fruit and cookies are available at the office. The only catch: we do expect you to put your dishes in the dishwasher afterwards.

13. What will probably surprise me when I start at BIMcollab?

Probably how much there is behind a company of around 120 people. We develop and sell our own software internationally, work with colleagues and customers across different countries, and combine more than 30 years of experience with the ambitions of a SaaS company that is still evolving. That also means not everything is finished or set in stone and you'll have plenty of opportunity to help shape what comes next.

14. How much corporate nonsense should I expect?

We have processes, policies and meetings: we're a 120-person company, after all. But we try not to create them for the sake of having them. We're relatively informal, have short lines and expect people to talk to each other rather than hide behind process.

15. What kind of person might not enjoy working at BIMcollab?

If you prefer every decision to be made for you, every process to be completely defined and your work to stay neatly within the boundaries of your own role or team, BIMcollab may not be your ideal environment. We expect people to take ownership, collaborate across teams and be comfortable with some change along the way.

Growth & development

16. What does onboarding look like?

When you start, your laptop, headset and other essentials are arranged so you can get going straight away. You’ll also have access to Personio, our HR platform for practical information, and you’ll be paired with a buddy who can help you find your way within the organisation. During your onboarding, different teams introduce you to what they do and how their work connects to BIMcollab’s vision. You’ll also get access to the BIMcollab Academy to learn more about our products and the BIM domain. And of course, there’s a small welcome gift waiting for you!

17. What opportunities are there to grow and develop?

Growth doesn't always mean moving to the next job title. It can mean becoming better at your craft, deepening your expertise, tackling more complex challenges, increasing your impact or taking on broader responsibilities across teams or products. Depending on your ambitions, growth can eventually also mean moving towards a specialist, lead or management role. We encourage you to take ownership of where you want to grow and have regular conversations about your performance, development and the opportunities that fit you.

18. How can I use my personal development budget?

Employees have a personal development budget of approximately €1,500 per year up to a max of €3,000. It can be used for things such as training, courses, conferences, certifications and personal development. The idea is simple: if something helps you develop professionally and is relevant to your growth, we would like to invest in it.

Applying

19. What does the application process look like?

The exact process depends on the role. Usually, you'll first speak with Recruitment. This is followed by a conversation with the hiring manager to dive deeper into the role, your experience and how you like to work.

Depending on the position, a next step can include a technical interview, case, presentation or conversation with future team members. We make hiring decisions together. It's not just about whether you can do the job, but also whether the role, team and organisation are right for you.

20. What can I expect from a technical interview?

For Engineering roles, we want to understand how you think and work as an engineer. That means looking beyond whether you know a specific technology. Depending on the position, the conversation can cover technical depth, problem-solving, design choices and trade-offs. The exact format can differ between Engineering positions. We’re also interested in how you collaborate, communicate and take ownership of your work.

21. What do you look for besides experience and skills?

Your CV matters, but it doesn't tell us everything. We're also interested in why you want to join, how you work with others, how you respond to feedback and how you approach problems. Curiosity, ownership, collaboration, communication and the willingness to keep learning are important across many of our teams. Ultimately, we're looking at the bigger picture: can you do the job, will you enjoy working with the team, and can we offer you an environment in which you can continue to grow?

22. I don't meet every requirement. Should I still apply?

Yes. A vacancy describes the person we think could be a good fit, but we don't expect every candidate to tick every single box. If you're genuinely interested in the role and recognise yourself in most of what we're looking for, we'd encourage you to apply. Some requirements really are essential for a particular role, and we'll try to make those clear in the vacancy.

23. Do I need experience in BIM or the construction industry?

Not necessarily. Many of our colleagues joined BIMcollab-KUBUS from other software companies or industries. Depending on the role, experience in SaaS, software development, product development or working with customers can be more relevant than previous BIM or construction experience.

That said, BIM is a technical domain, so curiosity and a willingness to learn are important. You won't be expected to know the difference between BIM, BCF and IFC on day one. During your onboarding, we'll introduce you to our industry and products, and you'll have access to the BIMcollab Academy to build your knowledge at your own pace.

24. Can I have lunch with you before I decide?

Yes, if you're further along in the process and you'd like to get a better feel for the team and office, just ask. We think choosing a new employer is a big decision too.

25. Do I need to speak Dutch to work at BIMcollab?

Not necessarily. BIMcollab is an international organisation and English is the main working language within many of our teams. Depending on the role and the people or customers you work with, Dutch may still be required. You’ll always find the specific language requirements in the vacancy.

26. Can I work at BIMcollab if I live outside the Netherlands?

For some roles, yes. We already have colleagues working from several countries. However, being an international company doesn't automatically mean that every position can be performed fully remotely or from every country. This depends on the role, team and employment possibilities in your location. You'll find the location requirements in the vacancy.

Do you want to help us build?

At BIMcollab, engineers, product teams, marketers, support specialists, and operations colleagues all work toward the same goal: improving collaboration in construction.
